Nuclear Winter runway show – day 14

If civilization were to fall to ruin, you’ll know where to get some post-apocalypse duds. Goggles, fur, boots. Upcycled, recycled, salvaged materials. Metallics, neons, and camouflage. All were represented. This was our most popular theme, as you can see by the crush of models inside the shantay before the show. Check out the list of participating designers on the Nuclear Winter page. As always, the walk was a well-attended event, and the models appreciated all the encouragement as they tromped through shanty town.

WithChild fashion show – day seven

For our second on-ice runway show the theme was WithChild. We asked ourselves and other participating designers to create looks that the whole family can wear. Every designer got into the spirit and we had the most diverse collection of models that you may see from the Sashay Shantay. Strutting through shanty village were kids, babies, pregnant women, moms, dads, and even a plush kitty substituted for an infant! All in all a well-dressed family show. Next up, post apocalypse!

Sparkle Beautiful Ice Skating runway show – day one

Hello Art Shanty enthusiasts! It was so good to see you all today for the first day of the Project! We’re glad you liked our Shantay, the clothes, and especially how much heat our wood stove kicks out. The most frequent comment of the day “Oh! It’s nice and warm in here.” Second most “Oh! It’s so cuuuuuute!” Thanks too for cheering and photographing the Sparkle Beautiful Ice Skating runway show, we all had a really great time. We’ll see you tomorrow and Monday!

We moved thee Shantay yesterday, she now resides on Medicine Lake. Floating on top of what ice there is. Our group architects designed thee Shantay clamshell/mobile home style. Causing us to make two trips with two large pieces, but saving us from a long construction day out on the ice. Now that thee Shantay is home, the group is focusing on interior decoration, long sewing days, and hoping for freezing temps. With only a few days to go till opening weekend, can we do it? Why, of course! We’re the Sashay Shantay team. We can do anything and look good doing it!

The Shantay is shaping up. Today was a very long and productive build day, and we’re looking forward to a few more before the big move to Medicine Lake this weekend. The first day of the Shanties is a short week away (see you there!), and we’re uncharacteristically hoping for colder weather. Let’s all hope for a freeze, or suffer the indignity of art shanties on pavement, next to the lake. Not quite the same effect, is it? Think subzero!

In the morning, it was just timbers.

We’re builders and we’re building. Here’s what we’ve done so far. It’s beginning to take shape, thanks to our carpenter men. Next build day is expected to be much colder than this one. Hot coffee/tea donations will be accepted and greatly welcomed. Donuts too. Don’t forget the donuts. More updates soon! Click on the photo for more construction images.

Thee Sashay Shantay wants you to weave a bewitching spell on our outdoor runway on Medicine Lake! Join us on our Fantasy Quest! All welcome! If you made it, and you want to show it off (in the context of our lovely state’s extreme winter) join us! Lets make something fabulous out of Seasonal Affective Disorder! A strange happening is occurring on Medicine Lake this year within the deserted attic of a sunken house the abandoned remnants of a forgotten culture are waiting to be reassembled. Fashion will ascend to a new dimension!

There are two ways to contribute to Thee Sashay Shantay.

No. 1. Create full looks for the following themes.

SPARKLE BEAUTIFUL ICE SKATING Shown on January 14th – An ode to the sensuous ice dancers, sparkles, lycra, and triple Salchows. This is fashion ON ICE!

WITHCHILD Shown on January 21st – Bundling up babies and families in Minnesota. Fashion for wee ones and their whole family.

NUCLEAR WINTER Shown on January 28th- Post apocalypse survival in the tundra. Fashion at the end of the world.

No. 2. Contribute your visionary creations to our Wardrobe of Wonder. These items will be kept in Thee Sashay Shantay and will adorn the varied participants of the photobooth.
